John Wooddisse was born in 1813 at Hartington in Derbyshire, the son of Edmund Wooddisse 1789-1861 and his wife née Martha Needham 1793-1837.

He was a joiner and farmer.

He married Susannah Hall at Waterfall in Staffordshire on 5 August 1837. She was born in 1818, the daughter of Charles Hall 1793-1861 of Grindon in Staffordshire and his wife nee Sarah Hodgkinson 1797-1877.

They had the following children:

Charles Wooddisse. He was born in 1838, and baptised at Hartington on 11 July 1838. He was a baker and corn dealer. He married Anne Wallis in 1867 at Uttoxeter in Staffordshire and secondly Agnes Noakes in 1883. They lived at Draycott-in-the-Clay, Staffordshire. He died on 22 August 1889 at Draycott-in-the-Clay (1).

Mary Hall Wooddisse. She was born in 1840, and baptised at Hartington on 26 July 1840.

Lydia Ann Wooddisse. She was born in 1843. She was married to John Brindley of Kingsley in Staffordshire in 1868, and died in 1926.

John Wooddisse. He was born in 1845 and died in 1911.

Martha Wooddisse. She was born in 1847, and baptised at Hartington on 4 May 1848. In 1873 she was married in Manchester to Richard Goodwin Gould 1822-1892 of Pilsbury Grange, and died in 1922.

Maria Wooddisse. She was born in 1851, and baptised at Hartington on 24 April 1851. She was married at Hartington on 29 November 1870 to William Beardmore of Oakamoor in Staffordshire, the son of Solomon and Hannah Beardmore of Cheadle in Staffordshire. She died in 1878.

Their father John Wooddisse died in 1894 at Stockport in Cheshire aged 81 years.
