Isaac Berisford 1773-1854

Isaac Berisford was born in 1773 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the son of George and Elizabeth Berisford. He was baptised at Alstonefield on 9 February 1777.

He married Hannah Heathcote at Alstonefield on 10 November 1796. He was then living at Sheen in Staffordshire. She was baptised at Monyash in Derbyshire on 17 May 1775, and was the daughter of John and Sarah Heathcote of Monyash.

They lived at Beresford in Alstonefield parish but were of Archford Moor by 1810. When the Census was taken in 1851 they were living at West Side in Alstonefield parish, Isaac Berisford being then recorded as an agricultural labourer occupying half an acre (1).

They had the following children:

Samuel Berisford 1797-1857. He was baptised at Alstonefield on 16 July 1797. He married Ann Swindel in 1822 and had a family.

Sarah Berisford. She was baptised at Alstonefield on 12 August 1799.

Mary Berisford. She was baptised at Alstonefield on 24 January 1802. She was living at Archford Moor with her parents in 1841.

John Berisford. He was baptised on 29 January 1804 at Wetton in Staffordshire.

Joseph Berisford. He was baptised at Wetton on 9 February 1806.

John Heathcote Berisford. He was baptised at Alstonefield on 26 June 1808.

Rebecca Berisford. She was baptised at Alstonefield on 7 November 1813.

Hannah Berisford. She was baptised at Alstonefield on 16 June 1816.

Martha Berisford. She was baptised at Alstonefield on 4 July 1819.

George Berisford. He was baptised at Alstonefield on 30 March 1823 (2). He married Sarah Howard of Hartington in 1847 and had a family.

Their father Isaac Berisford died on 22 February 1854 aged 81 years, and was buried at Alstonefield.
His widow Hannah Berisford died at Hartington on 16 January 1855 aged 82 years). She was buried at Alstonefield, where there is a gravestone inscribed to her memory and that of her husband.

(1) West Side is near Archford Moor and Beresford, and these may be all the same place.
(2) His mother would have been fifty years old in the year of his baptism. So he may actually have been born some years earlier.
