Francis Richard Berton Hinde was born 1865 at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, the third son of Major General John Hinde CB and his wife nee Frances Gould, younger daughter of Richard Gould 1792-1868 and his wife nee Susan Bateman.
In 1871 the family were living at Powick in Worcestershire, and in 1881 at The Hermitage in Powick, which may have been the same address.
Francis Richard Berthon Hinde entered the medical profession, qualifying MD in Edinburgh and MRCS London.
On 28 October 1890 at Bloxham in Oxfordshire he married Ellen ("Nellie") Egerton, the only child of the Reverend Philip Reginald Egerton 1832-1911 (Headmaster of All Saints' School in Bloxham) and his wife nee Harriet Gould, daughter of Nathaniel Gould 1787-1867.
When the 1891 Census was taken, Francis and Ellen Hinde were living at Park Close in Bloxham, but by 1901 they were at Powycke, London Road, Sawbridgeworth near Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire, where Dr. Hinde was in medical practice. By 1911 they had moved to Homeland, Aldington near Hythe in Kent. They had then been married for twenty years and had two children, both alive in that year.
Their children, both born in Sawbridgeworth, were:
John Egerton Berthon Hinde. He was born in 1896. During the First World War he served in the Royal navy as a Lieutenant.
Margaret Hinde. She was born in 1898.
During the First World War Dr Francis Richard Berthon Hinde served in the Royal Army Medical Corps, being appointed a temporary Lieutenant on 27 July 1918.
He died on 8 November 1948.
