Francis Grey Bennett was born on 7 November 1830 at Chapel-en-le-Frith in Derbyshire, the son of William Bennett 1797-1879 and his wife Ernestina Mary von Schultz 1801-1865.
His father was a solicitor and attorney, and he followed him into the profession, qualifying as a solicitor's articled clerk by 1851. By 1861 he had qualified as a solicitor and been appointed Coroner and Clerk for the Glossop Division of Derbyshire.
He married Jane Wilkie on 16 August 1861 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Their only child William Wilkie Bennett was born in September 1862.
Francis Grey Bennett died on 23 March 1863 in Glossop, leaving his estate to his widow (1).
