Will of William Grindon who died in 1659.

"In the name of God Amen I William Gryndon of Ashe hulme within the parish of Alstonfeild in the Countie of Stafford yeoman being Weake in body but of perfect memory and mind prayses be alighty God for the Same Doe make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form followinge And first I committ my bodie to the earth from whence it came and my soule unto Jesus Christ my blessed redeemer hopinge assuredly by his merritts on the Crosse to obteyne pardon for all my sinnes and everlastinge Salvation And As concerninge that estate that the Lord hath bestowed on me I give and bequeathe the same as followeth And first I give Devise and bequeath unto William Gryndon my sonne the Howse in Ashulmefould the Ovenhouse standing on Brownts Crofte pound? and the Lowercrofte barne And all those several Closes pastures and parcelles of land and meadowe Situate att Asholme aforesaid hereafter mentioned That is to Saye one Close called Browntscrofte and Brownts Crofte ground and other pasture called the Land Crofte and the under? Crofte at Ashhulmefould head and all other messuages buildinge barnes lands and acres? closes and pasttures with the appurtenances not formerly sould by me the sayd William Grindon and Conveaghed snd Setled on Elizabeth my mow Wife for her Joynture To have and to hould the several beforesaid Croftes barnes buildinge lands and all other like premises to the seyd William Grindon my Sonne and to the heyres male of his bodye lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the next right heires male of his the said William Gryndon the Testator for ever Notwithstanding? uppon that provided always that my said Sonne William Grindon paye and discharge all such Debts and Sums of Monye as I shall truly owe and be indebted then att the tyme of my decease Item I give devise and bequeath unto the sayd William Grindon my eldest Sonne and to the heires male of his body all the rest of my howses and lands Situate and ? att Ashe hulme aforesayd from and after the decease of Elizabeth my now wife not formerly bequeathed and which are setled for the Jointure of the said Elizabeth uppon condition that my said Sonne paye and discharge yearly unto my fower younger children the Summe of Twelve pounds after and during the Terme of eight yeares untill every one of my said children have received and had the full Summe of Fourtie pounds And my will and mynd is that if any of them shall dye .... and theron equally be to divided amongst the survivors of them Item my mynd and will is that if my said Sonne William Grindon doe not pay my said fower children as aforesaid for the term it shall and may be lawfull for them and every of them to enter into all those howses and lands that were setled for the Jointure of the sayd Elizabeth my wife ... untill the aforesayd severall summes be fully satisyed and payd Item I give and bequeath unto the said William Grindon my Sonne all the benefitt title and interest which I have by Lease from Syr John Harpur of the sixe beastgattes in Alstonfeildhays Item all the rest of my goods Cattells and chattells whatsoever not bequeathed after my debbts and funerall expences are discharges I give devise & bequeath the same unto the sayd William Grindon my Sonne ... estate and all my howshold goods ... my husbandry ware ... sayd Elizabeth ... Item my will and mynd is that William Grindon my Sonne shall paye to John Grindon his brother the Summe of five pounds within one yeare next after my decease Lastly I doe hereby constitute ordeyne and appoynt my Eldest Sonne William Grindon my sole Executor of this my Last Will & Testament hereby revoakinge all former Wills & Testaments whatsoever in Wittness whereof I have hereunto sett my hande and seale the second daye of Maye in the Yeare of our lord God One thousand sixe hundred fiftie nyne
