Stephen Wilson was born in 1761 at Twyford in Derbyshire, the son of John Wilson 1720-1789 and his wife née Anne Cocks 1736-1764. He was baptised on 12 April 1762 at Barrow-on-Trent in Derbyshire.
He was a merchant in the silk trade in Bread Street in the City of London, but had become bankrupt in 1795 (1).
On 24 January 1788 he had married Jane Mason at St Mary's church, Walthamstow in Essex (2). She was the daughter of Nathaniel Mason and his wife nee Ann Hunt.
They had the following children:
Fletcher Wilson. He was born on 28 October 1788 at Charlotte Street in London. His Non-Conformist baptism was registered at Dr Williams Library in London on 18 October 1797, together with those of his sisters Jane Wilson, Ann Wilson, Mary Wilson and Susanna Wilson at the same place and date (3). The actual places of their baptism are unknown. On 14 September 1820 he married Ann Morley at Walthamstow by licence (4). He was the Danish Consul General in London. He died on 13 July 1861 in St. John's Wood in London. Probate of his Will was granted on 29 July 1861 (5).
Jane Wilson. She was born on 7 October 1789 in the parish of St Stephen Walbrook in the City of London. She married George Stevenson 1797-1866 of Derby on 11 February 1823 and had three children, but she had died by 1832 when her uncle John Wilson 1755-1835 composed his Will which set up a trust "for the three children of my late niece Jane Stevenson (the wife of Mr Stevenson now or late of Derby Draper)" (6).
Ann Wilson. She was born on 18 January 1792 in the parish of St Stephen Walbrook in the City of London.
Mary Wilson. She was born on 27 October 1793 at Walthamstow.
Susanna Wilson. She was born on 23 June 1795 at Langley in Buckinghamshire. She was unmarried and living with her brother Fletcher Wilson when he died in 1861.
Their father Stephen Wilson died on 31 March 1814 aged years at Twyford.

(6) Jane Stevenson née Wilson had in fact died in Derby on 19 January 1828. Her children were Mary Jane Stevenson 1824-1909, George Wilson Stevenson 1825-1889, and Joshua Stevenson 1825-1906.
