Joseph Gould was born in 1754 and baptised at Bakewell in Derbyshire on 8 October 1754.
He married his cousin Anne Wardle 1760-1816 at Earl Sterndale on 28 July 1783. She was born on 16 May 1760 at Boosley Grange near Longnor in Staffordshire, the daughter of his father’s sister Mary Wardle nee Mary Gould 1721-1780. They lived at Ardwick, Manchester. He died there on 20 January 1821 aged 64.
