Henry Gilbert Gould was born in 1859 in Manchester, the son of Nathaniel Gould 1824-1874 and his wife nee Mary Wright 1827-1897.
His parents came from Derbyshire country families. His father, Nathaniel Gould 1824-1874, was a son of a family based for centuries at Pilsbury Grange near Hartington. His mother, born Mary Wright 1827-1897, came from another yeoman family long established in Bradbourne.
Henry Gilbert Gould died in 1860. He was buried in the churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin, Prestwich near his Manchester home at York Street in Cheetham on 23 October 1860 aged one year.
Of the three sons of his parents, his brother Nat Gould was the only survivor to adulthood. Henry Gilbert Gould and his other brother sadly died in infancy, and were buried at Prestwich. Their names are however commemorated on the gravestone of their mother at Bradbourne.
