George William Adams 1874-1960

Gradbach Farm

George William Adams was born on 20 November 1874 at Gradbach Farm, Wildboarclough in Cheshire, the son of Edwin Adams 1850-1917 and his wife nee Sarah Downes.

When the Census was taken in 1891 he was a wheelwright apprentice living with his parents at Five Ashes Farm in Kerridge near Bollington in Cheshire.

On 13 October 1896 he married Mary Sargeant 1876-1926 at Leigh near Uttoxeter in Staffordshire. She was the daughter of James Sargeant 1846-1891 and his wife nee Emma 1846-1936 of Leigh.

When the Census was taken in 1901 they were living in Rainow, Cheshire. George William Adams was then recorded as being a journey joiner.

They had the following children:

Frederick Adams. He was born on 23 December 1897 at Bollington in Cheshire, and baptised at Rainow on 11 April 1903

John William Adams. He was born on 30 March 1900 at Rainow, and baptised there on 11 April 1903. He died in 1982.

Edith Adams. She was born on 17 March 1903 at Rainow, and baptised there on 11 April 1903. She died in 1986.

Percy Adams. He was born on 27 May 1912 at Rainow. He died in 1958.

Their mother Mary Adams nee Sargeant died in 1926.

On 6 January 1932 George William Adams married Violet Hooley at Leek Register Office. She was born in 1908 at the daughter of George Hooley 1882-1964 and his wife nee Louisa Rowbotham 1884-1963 of Stoke-on-Trent.

They had the following children:

Stanley Adams. He was born in 1933.

Beryl Adams. She was born in 1934.

Bernard Adams. He was born in 1936 and died in 1993.

Maureen Adams. She was born in 1944.

Michael Adams. He was born in 1944.

Their father George William Adams died on 5 February 1960 at Baddeley Green in Stoke-on-Trent aged 85 years.
Administration of his estate was granted on 26 February 1960 (1).
