George Adams was born in 1802 at Narrowdale in Alstonefield parish in Staffordshire, the son of Ralph Adams 1759-1832 of Narrowdale and his second wife nee Mary Platt 1780-1848. He was baptised on 29 August 1802 at Alstonefield church.
In 1841 he was farming with his widowed mother at Narrowdale. When the 1851 Census was taken he was farming 244 acres at Narrowdale, living there with his wife and children employing two men and two female domestic servants.
He married Frances Oliver. She was born in 1823 at Hartington in Derbyshire. They had the following children, all born at Alstonefield:
Emma Adams. She was born in 1842.
Ralph Adams. He was born in 1844. He took over the family farm at Narrowdale when his father died in 1832. In 1876 he married Elizabeth Grant of Southam in Warwickshire. He died in 1918.
George Adams. He was born in 1847. In 1876 he married Lucy Ann Wood (born in 1841 at West Side in Alstonefield parish). She had been working as assistant in the grocer's and draper's shop of her uncle Richard Adams, and after he died in 1874 the shop was taken over by George and Lucy Ann Adams.
Richard Herbert Adams. He was born in 1855.
George Adams died on 7 August 1858 aged 56 years, and was buried at Alstonefield, where there is a gravestone inscribed to his memory and that of his wife.
His widow Frances Adams died on 8 March 1910 aged 87 years, and was buried at Alstonefield.
