Richard Tomkinson was born in 1812 at Endon in Staffordshire, the son of Thomas Tomkinson 1780-1834 and his wife nee Ellen Peake 1779-1859, and was baptised there on 3 April 1812.
He became a general medical practitioner and surgeon at Cheadle in Staffordshire.
On 30 April 1844 he married Louisa Hubbard, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Hubbard at Holy Trinity church, Grays Inn Road in London. She was born in 1817 at Cheadle.
They lived in Market Street in Cheadle, and are mentioned by his aunt Margaret Gould née Peake in a letter to her son Richard Goodwin Gould 1822-1892 dated 12 July 1844 (1).
They had the following children:
Henry Richard Tomkinson. He was born at Cheadle in 1846. When the Census was taken in 1861 he was recorded as being a medical and surgical engineer and brickfield proprietor living at 8 Hamilton Street in Chester. He had married Elizabeth Court (born on 8 September 1848 in Liverpool). They had the following children: Ethel Louisa Tomkinson (born in 1876) and Lillie otherwise Mabel Tomkinson (born in 1878). He died on 23 February 1884.
George Herbert Tomkinson. He was born at Cheadle in 1850. In 1861 and 1881 he was unmarried and living with his brother and sister-in-law at Chester. He died in 1897 aged 47 years.
By 1861 his wife had died, probably in 1857.
On 13 November 1866 Richard Tomkinson married Catharine Mary Brown nee King, at St Pancras church in London. She was born in about 1823 in London, and was the daughter of Samuel King and the widow of Mr Brown.
When the Census was taken in 1871 their address was High Street in Cheadle.
Richard Tomkinson died on 22 September 1876 at Cheadle aged 65 years, and was buried in the churchyard of St. Giles' church there. His Will was proved on 22 December 1876 at Lichfield (2).
