Rebecca Morewood

Rebecca Morewood was born in 1675, the daughter of the Reverend John Morewood 1645-1682 and his wife nee Anne Drakeford. He owned a large estate at Staden and elsewhere on the outskirts of Buxton that was eventually sold by his grandson’s executors to the Duke of Devonshire. John Morewood was a scion of a very ancient family that were living in medieval times at Bradfield in Yorkshire.

She was baptised at Eyam in Derbyshire on 15 January 1674/75.

Rebecca Morewood was married to Rowland Swann of Fairfield near Buxton in Derbyshire. He was was born on 10 July 1670.

Their children were:

Edward Swann born 17 September 1698. He married Dorothy Warrington, the eldest daughter and co-heiress of Edmund Warrington esquire of Whaley, Cheshire (1).
