Ralph Wooddisse was born on 24 September 1894 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the son of Thomas Wooddisse 1865-1933 and his wife née Mary Beardmore 1863-1949. He was baptised on the same day at Alstonefield.
When the Census was taken in 1901 he was away from home aged six years old boarding at the school of Miss Ellen Partrige in Alstonefield.
In 1911 he was with his parents at Sandybrook House at Ashbourne in Derbyshire.
At Ashbourne in 1929 he married Edith Mary Lawton. She was born in 1903 at Hatherton in Cheshire, the daughter of Thomas and Ann Lawton of the Home Farm, Ednaston in Derbyshire.
Initially a farmer, he became the Relieving Officer and Registrar for Births, Deaths and Marriages in Ashbourne (1).
He served with the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment (Sherwood Foresters) during the First World War in the 12th (Pioneer) Battalion Regimental No. 17356, and also served as a Major in the Sherwood Foresters during the Second World War.
They lived at Cherry Tree Cottage, Hockley Lane, Wingerworth in Derbyshire.
Ralph Wooddisse died on 14 July 1960 at Chesterfield aged 65 years, and was buried at Alstonefield where there is a monumental inscription to his memory.
Administration of his personal effects was granted on 4 October 1960 (2).
Edith Mary Wooddisse née Lawton died in 1990 at Derby aged 87 years.
