The Jessopp House in the Wardwick, Derby (1)
Margaret Sophia Dobbie was born in 1824 at Great Saling near Braintree in Essex.
She was the daughter of Captain William Hugh Dobbie RN 1771–1830 and his wife nee Agatha Shedden Goodrich 1784–1841.
On 22 November 1842 she was married at Derby to Francis Joseph Jessopp 1816-1867, an attorney (2).
In 1851 they were living at 15 Wardwick, the family house in The Wardwick, Derby.
By the time the 1861 Census was taken they had moved to 2 Arboretum Square in Derby.
They had the following children:
Margaret Agatha Jessopp. She was born in 1846 at Great Saling. In 1880 she was married at Derby to Henry Drake Cane, born in about 1835 at Southwell in Nottinghamshire. She died in 1929 at Long Ashton in Somerset.
Francis Robert Jessopp. He was born on 15 January 1848 at Great Saling, and died on 11 December 1915 at Long Ashton in Somerset.
Beatrix Ellen Jessopp. She was born in 1850 at Great Saling. In 1911 she was living at Tenby in South Wales with her unmarried cousin Mary Elizabeth Burnaby. She died unmarried on 10 February 1946 at Derby.
Louisa Janet Jessopp. She was born in 1852 at Derby.
Mary Virginia Jessopp. She was born in 1854 at Derby, and baptised there at St Werburgh's church on 26 September 1854.
Agatha Georgiana Jessopp. She was born on 25 August 1857 at Derby. In 1885 she was married in Derby to Edward Mead Wilmot. They emigrated to the United States of America, where she died on 21 August 1931 at Vernon, Missouri. She was the twin sister of Virginia Jessopp.
Virginia Jessopp. She was born on 25 August 1857 at Derby, the twin sister of Agatha Georgiana Jessopp.
Their father Francis Joseph Jessopp died in 1867.
In 1881 the widowed Margaret Sophia Jessopp was living at 34 Peartree Street in Derby with her unmarried daughters Beatrix and Virginia Jessopp.
Margaret Sophia Jessopp died on 15 March 1887 aged 63 years (3).

The house was built in 1611 for the Gisborne family in red brick with stone dressings, and is a fine example of a seventeenth century town house, although three bays were demolished in 1855 for the construction of Becket Street. The coach arch is now a window.

(2) He was the great-grandson of William Duesbury 1725-1786, the famous porcelain manufacturer. His mother Anne Elizabeth Duesbury 1790-1867 was the daughter of William Duesbury 1763-1796, the son of William Duesbury 1725-1786.
(3) Her Will was proved at Derby on 7 April 1887. Probate was granted to Francis Robert Jessopp of 20 Warwick Street, Regent Street in London, an architectural draughtsman, her son and and one of the executors. Her personal estate was £372 6s: National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations) 1858-1966 (1887) page 391.
