Frances Mary Thomason 1816-1842

Frances Mary Thomason was born on 1 February 1816 in India, the daughter of Thomas Truebody Thomason 1774-1829 and his wife nee Elizabeth Jane Fawcett (1).

She was married to Robert Montgomery on 17 December 1834 at Azimghur in West Bengal, India (2). He was the son of Samuel Law Montgomery and his wife nee Susan Maria McClintock.

They had the following children, all born at Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, India:

Frances Mary Montgomery. She was born on 10 October 1835, and was married to Donald McLeod. She died on 23 March 1842 aged only 26 years.

Robert Thomason Montgomery. He was born on 17 December 1836, and died in 1860 aged only 24 years.

Mary Susan Montgomery. She was born on 8 November 1838, and died on 22 December 1860. She was married on 1 March 1858 to James Crofton 1826-1908, the son of Morgan Crofton and his wife nee Helen Elizabeth O’Hare. He was a Lieutenant-General in the Royal Engineers.

(2) He was Sir Robert Montgomery, KCB GCSI LlB, Judicial Commissioner of the Punjab from 1853 to 1858, and Lieutenant-Governor of the Punjab from 1859 to 1865. He was born on 12 December 1809 at New Park, Moville, County Donegal in Ireland. He died in London on 28 December 1887 aged 78 years, and was buried in Londonderry. After Frances Mary nee Thomason died in 1842 he re-married on 2 May 1845. His second wife was Ellen Jane Lambert 1810-1919, the daughter of William Lambert. By a son of his second wife he was an ancestor of Field Marshal Lord Montgomery.
