Frances Gould was born in Nottingham on 13 October 1809, the daughter of William Gould 1771-1826 and his wife née Mary Turney 1778-1862. She was baptised on 13 November 1809 in St. Mary's church in Nottingham.
On 10 July 1833 she was married to George Briggs in St Pancras Old Church in London. He was born on 22 September 1802 in London (1).
They had the following children:
Fanny Briggs. She was born on 8 April 1835 in London, and was baptised there on 9 May 1835 in St. Pancras Old Church. In 1891 she was living at 228 Camden Road in London with her brothers George Walker Briggs and Alfred Herbert Briggs, her sister Mary Gould Briggs, and niece Amy Briggs, all unmarried, with two female domestic servants. By 1901 only Fanny Briggs and her brother George W Briggs (by then retired) were in the household. She died on 21 January 1924.
Benjamin Turney Briggs. He was born on 24 May 1837 in London, and baptised on 7 July 1837 in St. Pancras Old Church. He died on 19 February 1838 at 16 Gloucester Place in London.
George Walker Briggs. He was born on 17 September 1839 in London, and was baptised on 12 October 1839 in St. Pancras Old Church. In 1861 he was a coach manufacturer's apprentice, but by 1881 he was himself a coach builder. His country residence was Ludwell in Hartington. By 1901 he had retired, and was living with his sister Fanny Briggs in London. He died on 8 September 1923 at Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire.
Mary Gould Briggs. She was born on 6 January 1842 in London, and was baptised on 3 February 1842 in St. Pancras Old Church. She died on 26 October 1913.
Charles Edward Briggs. He was born on 17 December 1843. He died on 31 January 1877.
Bertha Turney Briggs. She was born on 26 January 1846 in London, and was baptised on 4 November 1846 in St. Pancras Old Church. She was married to Edward Mawley in June 1885 in London. In 1901 they were living at Northchurch and in 1911 at Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire. She died in 1934.
Harriette Campbell Briggs. She was born on 22 October 1848 in London, and was baptised on 18 August 1848 in St. Pancras Old Church. She died in 1879.
Alfred Herbert Briggs. He was born on 14 November 1851 in London, and was baptised on 27 March 1852 in St. Pancras Old Church. He was a solicitor. In 1881 he was visiting his sister and brother-in-law at Northchurch. He died in 1919.
Their father George Briggs was a successful coach builder and harness maker, trading from 45 Wigmore Street in London's West End. He won a prize medal at the 1851 Great Exhibition.
The family lived in London and at Ludwell near Pilsbury Grange in Derbyshire. In 1841 they were living at 23 Down Hill, Hampstead in London, but later lived at Fitzroy Square until 1844. By 1851 they were at 80 Camden Road Villas in London, but by 1881 their address was 234 Camden Road.
Frances Briggs née Gould died on 6 January 1887 at 234 Camden Road in London.
Her husband had predeceased her there on 13 November 1880, and was buried in Bunhill Fields in London.
(1) According to his passport, delivered to London on 18 August 1828, George Briggs was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and of an ordinary complexion. He had chestnut eyes, hair and eyebrows, an oval face with high forehead, round chin, and an average nose.
