Cecil Hunt Gould was born in 1876 at Bishops Cannings near Devizes in Wiltshire, the son of Louis Philip Gould 1840-1927 and his wife nee Louisa Tyrer 1843-1937.

He was educated at Bedford School, and Exeter College in Oxford. He trained for the ministry of the Church of England at Leeds Clergy School, and was ordained in Salisbury Cathedral.

He served his curacy at Wimborne Minster in Dorset, and then at Sturminster Newton from 1908 to 1916. During the First World War he was a reserve Army chaplain, and worked for the Young Men's Christian Association. He served as chaplain of Sturminster Newton Institution Chapel from 1915.

In 1916 he was appointed Rector of Hammoon in Dorset, and served in the parish until he died.

He played hockey and rugby in his youth, and enjoyed hunting, shooting and fishing (1).


The Reverend Cecil Hunt Gould died on 10 February 1937 (2), and was buried at Hammoon on 13 February 1937.
