Moses Smith was born on 12 December 1839 at Longnor in Staffordshire, the son of George Smith 1805-1891 of Longnor and his wife née Ann Horobin 1808-1897.
In 1881 he was living at home with his parents at Dog Lane in Longnor, and was a journeyman carpenter and joiner (1).
He married Esther Wheeldon on 3 February 1831 at Longnor. She was born in 1845 at Longnor.
They lived in the Market Place in Longnor, and had the following children (both born in Longnor):
Ann E. Smith. She was born in 1870, and died in 1955.
Moses Smith. He was born in 1883. Like his grandfather George Smith 1805-1891 he was a joiner and wheelwright. In 1906 he married May Critchlow. She was born at Monyash in Derbyshire 1886, the daughter of John Henry Critchlow 1853-1934 and his wife née Harriet Goodwin 1856-1935. They lived in Monyash.

When the 1901 Census was taken their father Moses Smith was employed as a carpenter at a lime works, but by 1911 he was working from home as a joiner and wheelwright.
He died in 1912 aged 72 years.
His wife died in 1933 aged 88 years.
