Kate Phillips 1880-1974

Kate Phillips was born on 3 January 1880 at Stanton Hill, Skegby in Nottinghamshire, the daughter of Joseph Phillips 1844-1929 and his wife Jane Elizabeth (surname unknown) 1850-1930. She was baptised at Skegby on 1 February 1880.

In 1907 she was married to Alfred Marchant, born at Riber, Matlock in Derbyshire in 1877, the son of William Marchant and his wife nee Hannah Mather.

When the Census was taken in 1911 they were living at 57 Fernie Avenue in Melton Mowbray. In 1901 Alfred Marchant had been a locomotive engine stoker at Hasland near Chesterfield in Derbyshire, but by 1911 was a locomotive engine driver in an iron foundry.

They had the following children, all born at Melton Mowbray:

Janet Barbara Marchant. She was born on 7 August 1908, and was baptised on 13 September at Skegby.

Helen Marchant. She was born in 1910.

Albert Ronald Marchant. He was born in 1911.

Their mother Kate Marchant nee Phillips died at Melton Mowbray in 1974 aged 94 years.

Her husband Alfred Marchant died there in 1958 aged 81 years.
