John Adams was born in 1782 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the son of Humphrey Adams and his wife nee Phoebe Boden 1761-1821. They were married at Alstonefield on 7 April 1782.

He married Mary Rowland on 9 July 1806 at Alstonefield. She was born in 1783 and died in 1821, and was buried at Alstonefield on 11 March 1821.

In 1813 John Adams and his family were living at Ludwell near Hartington in Derbyshire.

He was recorded in the 1851 census as being then aged 69 years, a widower and a farmer of six acres.

The children of John and Mary Adams were as follows:

Thomas Adams. He was born in 1808.

James Adams. He was born in 1810.

William Adams 1813-1898. He was born in 1813. He married Hannah Wood of Longnor on 24 February 1834 at Alstonefield.

John Adams. He was born in 1814.

Mary Adams. She was born in 1818.

Hannah Adams. She was born in 1820.

John Adams died in 1867 aged 85 years, and was buried at Alstonefield on 15 November 1867.

His wife Mary Adams had predeceased him in 1821 aged only 38 years, and was buried at Alstonefield on 11 March 1821.
