George William Wardle was born in 1873 at Quarnford in Staffordshire, the son of
In 1881 he was living with his parents in the home of his widowed maternal grandmother Ann Goodwin at Quarnford in Staffordshire. She was born in 1813 at Warslow in Staffordshire. His father Thomas Wardle was a cordwainer, born in Hartington Upper Quarter in 1852.
When the 1891 Census was taken George William Wardle was with his parents and the other children of their family at the New Inn, Flash in Quarnford. His father was then an innkeeper and farmer.
In 1898 he married Jane Ann Askey, daughter of William Askey 1844-1917 of Alstonefield and his wife nee Jane Berisford.
When the 1901 Census was taken they were living at Bank Cottage, Quarnford in Staffordshire. George William Wardle was then working as a teamsnan.
By 1911 they had moved to 17 Grin Row, Burbage in Buxton, Derbyshire. He was then employed as a coal agent.
Later they lived in an old stone cottage at Wye Head on Macclesfield Road in Buxton.
They had no children of their own, but brought up the daughter of Martha Askey.
George William Wardle died at Buxton in 1945 aged 72 years.
His wife Jane Ann Wardle died there in 1957 aged 85 years.
Their cottage at Wye Head in Macclesfield Road, Buxton was demolished in the 1960s.
